The Mighty Ducks are back for another round of hockey this year, as a brand-new season of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers is officially out on Disney+ today (September 28).
Leaving the rink in Minnesota and making their way to sunny California, season two follows The Mighty Ducks and their coach Alex Morrow (played by Lauren Graham) and their time at a competitive ice hockey training camp filled with intense schedules and a hardcore coach, former NHL player Colin Cole (played by Josh Duhamel). As the Ducks try to survive in this super-competitive environment, they’re faced with the biggest question of them all — can you actually win summer?
“Evan definitely takes hockey way more seriously in the second season than in the first season,” Brady Noon, who plays Evan Morrow says to Celeb Secrets reporter Ilana Epstein.
According to Taegan Burns, who plays Maya in the show, viewers will get to see all different sides to the characters, including the growing pains of being a teenager, friendship drama, relationship drama, and even self-identity issues.
And aside from meeting Josh’s character Colin, viewers will meet another new cast member, New Amsterdam star Naveen Paddock. Paddock plays Jace Cole, who is head coach Colin Cole’s son. He faces challenges of his own, along with the rest of the cast.
“I had watched the show before, so I was really excited to join a talented bunch,” Paddock tells Celeb Secrets reporter Ilana Epstein. “I was welcomed with open arms; I’m very thankful.”
“I think his performance will speak for itself when you see it,” Noon added, with Maxwell Simkins, who plays Nick echoing, “he just has that swag to him.”
The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers was introduced to the world back in early 2021, however, the cast began filming in Canada in February of 2020 and continued throughout most of the pandemic. COVID-related restrictions where still in place, and the cast was not able to enjoy their time on set as they normally would do to social distancing and testing requirements.
For season two, however, Luke Islam, who plays Koob, shared that restrictions were eased when they returned to their new set in Los Angeles, giving the young cast multiple opportunities to bond by hanging out in between filming scenes and eating lunch together, along with “rap battles and freestyles,” according to DJ Watts, who plays Sam.
“It also helps that we’re all the same age; we’re a bunch of kids on set,” Taegen said, with Luke adding, “we all came from different cliques and groups and were just brought together as a family in the first season.”
